Otto Berkes was born in Hungary and raised and educated in the United States.  He has a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Middlebury College and a Master’s degree in CS/EE from the University of Vermont.  Before joining Microsoft in 1993, he worked at Autodesk where he developed the graphics engine for AutoCad 11.  At Microsoft, he authored the first software-accelerated OpenGL pipeline to enable real-time 3D rendering and led the development team through several Windows releases.  Subsequently, he was responsible for the development of DirectX graphics through DirectX 8.  As an Xbox Founder, he led the initial prototyping and development effort.  He was also a principle in incubation work that led to the formation of Media Center, and was the father of the Origami project and the architect of the ultra-mobile PC platform.  Currently, he is a Partner Architect in the office of the CTO.
